Patented Technology in Industrial Condensate Management: Mikropor MWOS Series Oil-Water Separator Units

MWOS Series Oil-Water Separator Units, patented by Mikropor, is a strategic product that reflects the company’s R&D strength and environmentally-oriented engineering approach. During the development process, the design, testing and application phases were carefully carried out, prioritizing performance, compatibility and sustainability criteria. With its structure compatible with different oil types and compressor capacities, MWOS Series is not just an oil-water separator; it is the product of a system approach developed with technical expertise, environmentally responsible and targeting high performance.

Mikropor MWOS Series Oil-Water Separator Units are designed for the disposal of industrial oily water condensate at the outlet of compressors by separating oil and water components. In compressor systems, compressor oil is used to ensure heat dissipation during compression and lubrication of moving parts. The use of compressor oil helps to provide better protection against wear. These oils form a film on metal surfaces, preventing corrosion and minimizing wear. This allows compressors to run more efficiently, reduce friction, control temperature and ensure longer life of parts. Compressor oils are therefore critical to keep compressors running smoothly and efficiently. However, as the compressed air cools and water vapor condenses, the condensate that is formed contains oil for the uses mentioned above. This oily water condensate is periodically removed from the system through the water separator, wet tank, filters and dryer drains. The oil content in the condensate is quite high (500-3000 ppm). This condensate is defined as a hazardous industrial waste and its discharge without any degreasing system is not suitable for environmental health. Many countries have introduced restrictive laws for the oil content of discharges. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wastewater regulations, the maximum concentration of oil in wastewater is < 40 ppm. Therefore, today, oil separation from wastewater is a must to protect the environment and comply with the law.

MWOS Units separate mineral and synthetic oil types and are suitable for use with all compressors. It is a suitable system to ensure efficient and sustainable operation of compressor systems and to manage the safe disposal of oily water condensate.

Condensate with an oil concentration in the range of 500 – 3000 ppm from the discharges of the equipment in the compressor line enters the MWOS through multiple inlet ports. The condensate first enters the depressurization unit, where the flow is allowed to stagnate and the condensate is directed in its usual progression to the first separation unit. It then proceeds to the Mikro-Sep Kit, specially designed by Mikropor, where primary separation is achieved. An oil layer forms on the unit and after a certain period of time, the oil starts to fill the oil collection container. When the oil level in this container reaches the upper levels, the oil accumulated in the collection container is disposed of in accordance with environmental regulations. After the water with an average concentration of 150 ppm passes through the Mikro-X-Tex and Mikro-Carb cartridges in the second separation unit, the desired separation process is completed.

Mikropor can offer Oil-Water Separator Units in accordance with compressor capacities ranging from the smallest ~60 CFM to the largest ~1943 CFM respectively. The oil concentration in the water is reduced to < 10 ppm at the outlet of the MWOS units.

Compressor Capacity (CFM)
MWOS Models Mineral Oil (CFM) Synthetic Oil (CFM) Oil Concentration at MWOS Outlet
MWOS-11 ~60 ~60 < 10 ppm
MWOS-37 ~248 ~248 < 10 ppm
MWOS-55 ~389 ~389 < 10 ppm
MWOS-110 ~777 ~777 < 10 ppm
MWOS-160 ~1167 ~1167 < 10 ppm
MWOS-200 ~1556 ~1556 < 10 ppm
MWOS-250 ~1943 ~1943 < 10 ppm

The optional lower reservoir offered with MWOS Units is offered as a solution in case of possible overcapacity. It has enough reservoir to store and discharge all the liquid in case of overflow that may occur with overcapacity. When the flow in the units is disrupted, the lower reservoir has sufficient volume for the overflowing liquid and discharges all the liquid inside the units through the reservoir.

MWOS Units are an innovative solution that plays a critical role in protecting the environment and complying with regulatory requirements in industrial applications. By providing an effective oil-water separation in compressor systems, it both eliminates criminal proceedings, thus preventing additional costs, and contributes to environmental sustainability with these systems.

MWOS Series is a solution developed to provide safe condensate management in compressed air systems and stands out with its performance and flexibility of use. Mikropor’s filtration and separation technologies for different industries offer a wide range of products for businesses targeting high efficiency and operational safety.
